Creatively Healthy - A Fun Tip for
Summer
It's summer. Who wants to think about health? We're too busy having
fun!
Well, I've got
some really good news for you today.
Many of you have
subscribed to my Truths & Tips newsletter - a series of "quickie" tips
to help your health. Whether you've subscribed or not, everyone can
benefit from this bonus tip. It's perfect for summer, because carrying
it out can be a lot of fun.
Tip: Expand your comfort zone!
Yep, that's it.
Try it out for a month and see just how much fun you can have.
Here's the
challenge: every day for the next month, do one thing that expands
your comfort zone in some way.
The background:
We're creatures of habit. We do something one way one time and pretty
soon, that's the only way we can see. Sometimes the first way we
thought of isn't the best, but we'll never know unless we try
something different once in a while.
So try something
different!
Here are some
ideas:
- Take a
different route to or from work.
- Try a food
you're not familiar with.
- Pack a picnic
and have dinner in the park.
- Attend a music
concert in a style you're not used to (summer band concert?)
- Buy, or borrow
from the library, a magazine dedicated to something you're usually
not drawn to. Read the whole thing.
- Prepare a
dinner of foods from a different culture.
- Browse at a
store you've never been to before.
- Shuffle the
family around the dinner table so everyone gets a different view.
- Attend a
worship service of a denomination other than your own.
- Explore a
corner of your town -- or even your own yard -- that is unfamiliar.
Pretend you're the tour guide. What would you show a guest?
- Trade chairs
with your spouse for the evening.
- When you take
the dog around the block, go the "other" direction.
- Introduce a
new plant to your yard.
- Get up an hour
earlier than usual.
- Serve a dinner
that features one food of every color (blueberries, anyone?)
- Re-arrange the
furniture.
- Go crazy.
Create your own fun!
What benefits
will you expect to receive from all this adventure? Who knows?
- You may find
some new healthy foods to add to your regular diet.
- You'll
strengthen your "creativity muscle." Who knows what else you might
create?
- You'll build
resilience for new situations, which lowers anxiety.
- You may make
some new friends.
- And you'll
most certainly have some fun!
As a matter of
fact, why not email me and let me know what happened?
Dedicated to
optimizing your life and your health...
